SOA REX Pool Frequently Asked Questions – Researcher

SOA Research Expanding Boundaries (REX) Funding Pool Frequently Asked Questions for Researcher Applications

  1. What are the key areas that the REX Pool will target?
  2. Generally, the Research Expanding Boundaries Pool (“REX Pool”) has been established to support a research strategy focusing on increasing the amount of impactful research produced by the SOA. To further this goal, the SOA’s Research Executive Committee (REC) periodically issues RFP’s seeking applications for research on specific topics.

  3. Who may submit an application for funding directly to the REX pool?
  4. Anyone may submit an application and proposal directly to the REX pool.

  5. Can applications be submitted for topics not specified in an RFP issued by the SOA’s Research Executive Committee?
  6. Yes, applications can be submitted for topics not specified in an RFP. They will be considered along with applications submitted in direct response to an RFP. It is expected that applications will be primarily in direct response to an RFP.

  7. What if my application is time-sensitive and requires immediate review?
  8. In order to have an application reviewed immediately, the application must demonstrate the need for such review. It is intended that this will occur only on rare occasions.

  9. If an application is rejected by the REC for REX Pool funding, can it be resubmitted at a later date?
  10. If an application is rejected, the REC will provide feedback as to why it was rejected. Applications which are declined may also seek funding from alternate SOA sources other than the REX Pool.

  11. Are there limits to the amount of funding that can be requested?
  12. There are no minimum or maximum limits to the amount of funding that can be requested. However, funding is subject to available resources.

  13. Who will have ownership of the research deliverable(s)?
  14. The SOA plans to hold the copyright to the research and to publish the results with appropriate credit given to the researcher(s).
