Group and Health Finance and Valuation Exam

Welcome to the Group and Health Finance and Valuation Exam home page! Please review all of the information and links provided below.

Group and Health Finance and Valuation (FV)is a five-hour written-answer exam that is offered in the spring and fall of each year. Both a U.S. and Canadian version of the exam will be administered, each of which has its own reading list. It is a requirement of the Group and Health Track.

The FV Exam along with the Design & Pricing (DP) Exam have replaced the previously offered Group and Health Core and Group and Health Advanced exams.

During a time of transition through the Spring 2021 exam administration the FV Exam will be divided in to two segments as follows:

  • Finance and Valuation-Core (FV-C) – A three-hour exam with Canadian and U.S. versions
  • Finance and Valuation-Advanced (FV-A) – A two-hour exam

Learn additional details and the transition rules for those who have passed one but not both of the previously offered Group and Health Core or Advanced exams.

Canadian version of this exam is recognized by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
